Our suppliers are a relevant stakeholder in the implementation of our activities and processes. The performance evaluation of our suppliers allows us to achieve a relationship of trust, contributing to the stability and systematization of production processes. Our suppliers are evaluated in two distinct phases, in the presentation of the proposal and during the provision of the service/product.
Quality and responsiveness are the pillars of evaluation of our suppliers, allowing us to monitor the performance of the supplier during the provision of the service/product. Every year we qualify our suppliers, following the internal evaluation methodology of Arsenal do Alfeite, SA.

As part of the promotion of the company's social responsibility, the support given to the children of workers should be highlighted, embodied in the protocol signed between the IASFA, the Navy and Arsenal do Alfeite, S.A., which regulates the attendance of the nursery, day care center and kindergarten of the Centro de Apoio Alfeite Social, which benefited 35 children in 2011.
Also aimed at workers' children, a holiday camp was organized and held during the month of July, covering 63 children and young people aged between 6 and 15 years. Also aimed at supporting families, swimming was taught to workers' children through a protocol signed with a local association and a Christmas party was held open to households.
Social action aimed at workers was developed in the areas of sport (futsal and fishing tournaments) and culture (various theater programs with reduced prices). Also in the cultural sphere, the 2nd edition of “Arsenal Photo” was held on the topic of Waste Management. This photography contest, in addition to valuing photography as a form of artistic expression, sought to portray scenarios and raise workers' awareness of environmental issues.
Solidarity initiatives were carried out with the community, highlighting the organization within the company of 4 blood collections by the Portuguese Blood Institute, totaling 238 donations.
Also noteworthy is the participation in the bottle cap collection program with the aim of supporting the purchase of equipment for children and young people with disabilities.

The sustainable use of natural resources and respect for social requirements and the preservation of the environment are essential values and concerns of the company. In order to operationalize its values and obligations, Arsenal do Alfeite S.A. started in 2010 a set of activities for the implementation and certification of an Integrated Management System for Quality, Environment and Safety and Health at Work, in accordance with the ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards. award an environmental survey to determine the state of play in terms of compliance with applicable environmental standards and legislation and define possible corrective actions.
Procedures were defined to be followed in the event of emergencies, such as containment of spills of polluting products. Methodologies were also defined for an adequate management of the waste produced, creating conditions for separation at source and the respective recycling. The waste produced is managed in accordance with current legislation and its final destination, depending on the case, is sent for recycling, landfills or treatment. Also within the scope of reducing environmental impacts, the scrap yard was repositioned, with the requalification of the old park located by the river into a green space. In order to identify the environmental impact of the exercise of its activity, Arsenal do Alfeite, S.A. frequently monitors water, natural gas, electricity and fuel consumption and waste generation.

In 2010, the Studies and Projects Office developed some conceptual projects such as the “Multi-purpose Off-Shore Platform”, as a common headquarters for the exploration of renewable wave and/or wind energy parks and aquaculture exploration, extending to environmental monitoring , R&D, National Sovereignty and other offshore activities that are likely to coexist and contribute to increasing knowledge of the seas and oceans.
The development of the Pollution Fighting Ship project was also initiated at the Office of Studies and Projects. At this stage, in addition to various changes in the aft area, several studies were carried out to implement the new generators, steering gear and anti-pollution equipment.
